Several years ago Shofar Christian Church set up the Cyrus Trust as a way for the church movement to support NGOs established through the church itself, and also to come alongside others who are working in social and economic development. The trust has fulfilled its mandate well over the years, but in 2013 it was decided that capacity building and networking needed to be included as part of its function.*
The Cyrus Trust is an umbrella support structure for a growing number of NGOs, giving administrative support, especially around legal compliance – helping with the approval and appointment of directors and trustees whilst also keeping them accountable to their mission, vision and values. The trust is also there to provide training and networking opportunities, as well as assisting with fundraising. The NGOs currently included are Prochorus, Kibwe Kids, Relief Life, Inspired2Become, Bridging Abilities, Community Keepers and Amplified. It covers mercy ministry along with training and outreach.
An exciting aspect of the trust is that it will help increase our capacity as a church family to help those in need. Shofar congregations setting up local branches of the NGOs can benefit from the services provided by the trust.
Our vision for the coming years is to improve networking, and give guidance and help to NGOs as well as local congregations to build their capacity to better serve those in need.
